The "castells" (human towers)

They are impressive human towers that are part of the culture of Tarragona and that are exhibited in all the festivities of the city and its province. They have been declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity and each year they attract thousands of visitors.

In the Rambla Nova you will find the monument als "Castellers", a sculptural work in bronze by the Catalan sculptor Francesc Anglès Garcia. It was inaugurated on May 29, 1999, has a height of 11 meters and reproduces a "castell" of 222 "castellers" to natural size.

Carnival

Each year, Tarragona dresses in Carnival and offers visitors numerous and striking parades, walks and exhibitions.

Festival of Santa Tecla

Santa Tecla, September 23, is the biggest festival in Tarragona. A popular festival that dates back to 1321 and that in 1996 was declared a Traditional Festival of National Interest by the Generalitat of Catalonia and in 2002, a Festival of National Tourist Interest by the Spanish Government.
The Santa Tecla Festival lasts two weeks, it begins the second half of September and ends on September 22, 23 and 24, with the performance of the Popular Courtship of giants and big heads, and the different "Collas de castellers" that fit of pillar, they move from the Cathedral to the Town Hall.
With many activities and a lot of popular tradition, it is a party to enjoy with the whole family.

Festival of Sant Magí

On August 19, in the middle of summer the Sant Magi Festival is celebrated in honor of this Saint, different cultural and popular activities take place during the days dedicated to the celebrations of this festivity, highlighting the Procession of Sant Magi a the Brufaganya, of ancient popular religious tradition.
